Dutch to enjoy quicker money transfers to Surinam

First electronic postal order for monetary transactions between the Netherlands and Surinam

Paramaribo (Surinam) and Arnhem (The Netherlands), 12 October 2009 – SURPOST, the national postal service and package and freight transporter of Surinam, and CCV, the Netherlands-based market leader in electronic payment systems, launched a new electronic postal order system on 9 October – World Post Day.

The SURPOST Electronic Postal Order is a new credit transfer system that enables cardholders in Surinam to receive money from abroad cheaply, quickly and securely. Money can be transferred easily and safely to Surinam from anywhere in the world via the Internet.

SURPOST is an innovative and dynamic company providing a range of high-quality financial services at competitive prices, with professional customer care. The Electronic Postal Order was developed by SURPOST and is the electronic alternative to sending actual cash and paper postal orders abroad.

According to SURPOST General Director Carlo Godlieb, the introduction of the new debit card is bound to be a success. “We are convinced that this is a step in the right direction, one that will lead to prosperity and growth for large sectors of our society, and that a solid foundation has been laid for further expansion of this product to other countries in the region,” Godlieb stated.

The debit card and the accompanying credit transfer system will be operated jointly with CCV, the leading service provider for electronic transactions in Europe. “With the Electronic Postal Order, SURPOST and CCV will be fulfilling a key role in secure and reliable monetary transactions between Surinam and the Netherlands”, said CCV Managing Director Ton van der Bruggen.

The SURPOST Electronic Postal Order is a magnetic card with a unique card number and PIN code. The card must be loaded up in advance via Internet banking or the iDEAL online payment system before it can be used to withdraw money in Surinam. Withdrawal takes place in SURPOST offices and Hakrinbank outlets in Surinam which are linked to the system.

With this postal order, families, friends and business associates are able to have ready control over their money in Surinam. The unique SURPOST Electronic Postal Order is available in SURPOST’s head post office in Surinam.

The official introduction of the system took place in the presence of Surinamese bankers and other prominent figures from the Surinamese business community, representatives of the Dutch consulate, a delegation from the Netherlands Antilles, and members of the board of directors of both SURPOST and CCV.
