The first instant contactless payment terminal
After the magnetic stripe and the chip, a new way of paying!
Zurich, 29 March 2007, 9am – This is the moment when, in partnership with Aduno, MasterCard and McDonald’s, jeronimo launches the first contactless payment terminal in Switzerland. This revolutionary development enables an instant transaction to take place, without PIN or signature, thanks to the fastest credit card in the world.
Ease and speed of payment are a major asset for businesses that have to process multiple payments of small amounts all day long, such as fast food outlets, service stations, cinemas, kiosks, etc. To meet this need, jeronimo, one of the leading suppliers of card payment terminals in Switzerland, has come up with the very first
contactless terminal in this country, and one of a very few in Europe, indeed in the world. The Swiss company is thus, once again, a pioneer.
The contactless reader from jeronimo enables the customer to make his or her payment by simply waving his card across the terminal, without having to provide a signature or a PIN code. The user can make the transaction in less time than it would take to count out his or her cash, whilst still maintaining the feeling of security, because their card never leaves their hand.
The retailer enjoys the same advantages: payments that are quicker than using cash, less complex management and a security advantage, because there is less money in the cash till.
A pilot phase begins today in several Swiss McDonald’s restaurants. It will be used for all transactions below CHF 40. It will be extended to other types of commercial premises in certain pilot zones.
This method of paying for quick purchases, such as a cinema ticket, a family snack, newspapers and magazines, some croissants or a bunch of flowers, will become more widespread in the near future. Thanks to jeronimo’s new card reader, our ways of payment will soon drastically change for the better.
