What is Wero?

Wero is the new European payment method that will gradually replace iDEAL. You continue to pay just as easily and securely as before, using your own banking app. In addition, Wero enables simple and safe online payments in other European countries. This makes cross-border payments easier and more consistent across Europe.

Why is iDEAL being replaced?

Online payments do not stop at national borders. Wero has been developed as one European standard, allowing consumers and businesses in multiple countries to use the same payment method. This keeps payments simple, reliable and future-proof, while supporting international growth for entrepreneurs.

What will change for consumers?

Very little will change for consumers. Payments will still be made through their own banking app. The name and logo will gradually change from iDEAL to Wero. During the transition period, both logos will appear side by side. Consumers do not need to take any action.

What does this mean for businesses?

Businesses can continue to offer payments in the way their customers are used to. Wero also creates new opportunities, such as accepting payments from other European countries. The transition will take place step by step and is supported by banks and payment partners.

When will the transition take place?

The transition will start in 2026 with a combined iDEAL | Wero logo. The full migration to Wero will take place in phases and is expected to continue until the end of 2027.
